January 30th: Being Crafty

This Wednesday we showed our creative sides. Using fun paints and assorted materials, we decorated fabric for flags. Then we added wire to construct a fully functioning control!

Complete!  We will use them in the spring for training exercises.

January 23rd: Learning to Map!

Tonight the younger juniors played a game with Damian called "Roll-a-Map". Someone would roll a dice and each number corresponded with a feature on the map. The number that got rolled depicted which feature they had to draw on their map!

The older juniors had all taken a mapping course this past August, so they were working on putting the finishing touches on the map they created last summer.

Creating Courses!

Tonight the older girls set up fun little courses for the younger kids to do. They constructed snow banks and the girls  put up pin flags to act as controls! Not as cold as last week but still pretty snowy and a lot of fun!

The girls writing out controls on maps!
Emma figuring out how to get to the next control!
The younger girls taking a break and stargazing!
It's a competition between two of the Omdal sisters!

Geocaching!

At "Armchair Orienteering" on Wednesday the JDP group tried geocaching in the park. They're all over Calgary and a great way to get out and do some fun exercise! It's like orienteering - but cheating...

It was a little chilly outside and Molly didn't have earmuffs so she had to improvise...
Trying to figure out the GPS devices for the first time!

Finding the geocache. Success!
